Accelerating educational research with UpGrade in the XPRIZE

Cat.: Blog

The UpGrade team has just submitted the final report for the Demonstration Phase of the XPRIZE Digital Learning Challenge! This work was a culmination of nearly 2 years of effort to showcase how UpGrade is the best platform for enabling large-scale, reproducible experiments in formal educational contexts. The Digital Learning Challenge was established to accelerate and modernize the future of education research by challenging teams to build and implement a platform for conducting high-quality, rigorous, and replicable educational experiments. This Challenge invited us to support the growing need to understand what works best to understand learning in EdTech applications and improve learning outcomes.

As the only K-12 team in the competition, we faced additional complexities involving communicating with school districts on study participation, supporting student opt-in and opt-out processes, establishing data sharing agreements with each school, and coordinating timelines of an initial study and 5 replications as part of compliance with the Rules and Regulations.

We are incredibly proud of our team for working very hard on this Challenge! Results are anticipated to be announced in mid-April, 2023, and will be shared here as soon as permitted.
